Supplementing the NEWS ‘Emergency Alert’ system, there is now a new multi-channel community volunteer based alert system available to the local community. The aim is to alert subscribers quickly to incidents that may affect them, such as local bushfire activity and severe weather and electrical or hail storms. Although primarily based on official information, it also encourages local feed back. There is more information on the MACS website where you can register your contact details using a simple online form.

Sunday, December 6th, 2009‘Emergency Alert’ was launched on 2 December across the States and was trialled in the Blue Mountains area on 5 December as a test only. It will only be used for major life-threatening emergencies and is an additional warning system to the other channels available.
